(04/22/2002) Secretary of State Candice S. Miller will premiere A Walk Through Time
at the Michigan Historical Museum, a 30-minute video highlighting the
historical museum on Thursday, April 25. The video was produced under a
partnership between the Michigan Department of State and Michigan State
University (MSU) on behalf of the Michigan Department of History, Arts and
Libraries.
"For seven of my eight years as Secretary of State I had the privilege
of serving as the state’s official historian and my goal was to spread the
word across our state about the Michigan Historical Museum and the wonderful
programs it offers," Secretary Miller said today. "We are indebted to
Michigan State University for its help in producing the video, which will bring
this treasure close to home for everyone in Michigan."
A Walk Through Time at the Michigan Historical Museum showcases
the museum in a walking tour narrated by Secretary Miller that highlights its
dramatic galleries and exhibits. It begins with the story of the land and lakes
that were shaped by glaciers and concludes at the end of the 20th
century.
Dr. William M. Anderson, director of the Department of History, Arts and
Libraries, said the video will be an excellent resource for teachers preparing
students for museum visits, as well as an enticement to Michigan residents to
travel to the Capital City to visit the museum.
"Michigan is home to more than nine million people and there is no
better place to learn about the diverse and colorful history of Michigan’s
people than at the Michigan Historical Museum," Dr. Anderson explained.
"The museum tells Michigan’s story of amazing natural resources,
extraordinary people, and the ways they have changed over time."
The video was produced for the Michigan Historical Center by Telstate, a
hands-on laboratory administered by MSU’s Telecommunication Department.
Telstate’s mission is to provide media development services for nonprofit
clients, such as the State of Michigan, and to give students an opportunity for
practical video production experience.
A Walk Through Time can be purchased for $14.95 at the Michigan
Historical Museum gift shop in Lansing. It will be available later this month
online at the History e-store at www.michigan.gov
