Secretary Land calls cash machines another great
new feature that improves convenience, customer service

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that Michigan residents will get the added convenience of being able to use a cash machine at 30 branch offices across the state.

Automated teller machines already have been installed at two Wayne County branch offices with the rest expected to be installed by the end of the month.

"We're taking customer service and convenience to new heights by adding cash machines to our branch offices," Land said. "Visiting a branch office should be as quick as possible, and saving Michigan residents a stop at the bank beforehand is one way we can achieve that."

The pilot phase is expected to run nearly a year. Any banks or ATM companies that are interested then will bid on the chance to install machines at branches throughout the state. Five ATM providers are involved in the pilot. The state won't receive any portion of the ATM user fees during the pilot.

Adding ATMs is the latest customer service enhancement the Department of State has undertaken since Land took office. Other improvements include the creation of SUPER!Centers and PLUS offices, which feature expanded hours and services, as well as the broadening of services available online so customers can skip the trip to a branch office entirely. The department also offers ATM-style Self-Service Stations, which let customers renew their license plate tabs with the quick swipe of a major credit card.
