JANUARY 13, 2006
Whether you’re interested in cruising the information superhighway or getting connected with Michigan’s automotive heritage, the Department of State display at the North American International Auto Show has something for everyone, according to Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.
The booth, in the concourse of Detroit’s Cobo Hall, highlights online innovations designed for customer convenience. Guests also can try their luck in a raffle for tickets to visit historic auto-related attractions in southeast Michigan.
"We’re proud of Detroit and our auto industry," said Land, who is touring the show during its two-week public and private run. "This is an opportunity for both to receive the positive recognition that they deserve. We’re also proud of the advancements we’re making in giving our customers more convenient options. Visitors who check out our display will see how we’re working harder to serve them better.
"This is an exciting time for Metro Detroit and all of Michigan. Immediately following the auto show, Detroit again shines on the global stage by playing host to Super Bowl XL. But you don’t have to take to the field to be special. When you’re a Department of State customer, you’re the MVP!"
Highlights of the display include:
- A raffle to see auto-related attractions: Guests can try to win tickets for sites that are part of the MotorCities National Heritage Area. Attractions include the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, the Michigan Firehouse Museum in Ypsilanti and the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners.
- Online innovations: Many of our customers’ favorite services are featured, such as Plate It Your Way, which lets you see the available personalized license plate configurations before you go to a branch office. But that’s not all. The department’s new Auto Lost & Found program and the comprehensive Branch Office Service Locator are available as well. Need to know which office has expanded hours or where to go for certain specialty services? The Branch Office Service Locator has the answers!
- Seeing the advantages of branch office modernization: The department’s branch office modernization program is providing customers with enhanced services and greater conveniences. Find out what Secretary of State PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers can do for you.
- Taking care of business: We’re here to serve you – even during the auto show! Visitors can stop by the department booth and take care of business such as registering to vote, changing addresses, signing up as an organ donor and buying a copy of their personal driving record for $8.
- Special guests: No auto show would be complete without appearances by nationally recognized crash test dummies Vince and Larry. The safety-advocate duo is making the rounds again this year. Keep an eye out for them. They’ll even pose for photos with you!
- Large-screen displays: Three computers with large monitors are available. They allow guests to peruse the department Web site at www.Michigan.gov/sos and learn about existing and upcoming services.
"None of this would be possible without the enthusiastic support of our department volunteers," Land said. "They are outstanding ambassadors for the state of Michigan and we’re proud that they’re on the Department of State team."
The auto show is open to the public Jan. 14 – 22.
