Salvage Vehicle Inspectors

Salvage Inspection Details

Vehicles that have salvage titles are required to be inspected by a specially trained salvage vehicle inspector before a license plate may be purchased for the vehicle.

  • The inspection fee of up to $100 (effective 1/3/03) is payable to the police agency employing the inspector;
  • An Application for Salvage Vehicle Inspection must be completed prior to the inspection. This form is available at all Secretary of State offices or by following the link below;
  • A list of certified salvage vehicle inspectors is available by geographic region and by county at the link below.

Inspectors with an asterisk before their name will inspect vehicles for owners residing in their jurisdiction only.

If there is no inspector in your jurisdiction, you must contact a nearby inspector who does not have an asterisk before the name.

Contact the Michigan Department of State's Bureau of Regulatory Services at (517) 373-9294 for additional help locating a salvage vehicle inspector.
