Verification of Michigan Driver's License:
When former Michigan residents apply for a driver's license in a state other
than Michigan, they may be required to show proof that they previously held a
Michigan driver's license. If you do not have a valid Michigan driver's license,
you can obtain a clearance letter by contacting the:

Reinstatement Fee Notice:
The Michigan Department of State will not waive any driver's license
reinstatement fees that former Michigan residents may owe. Fees must be paid in
order to clear the driving record.
- Credit cards: Drivers may pay reinstatement fees with a Visa, MasterCard
or Discover card by faxing the completed Application for Driver's License
Reinstatement form (see Related Documents below) to the Out-of-State Resident
Services Unit at (517) 322-5438.
- Check or money orders: Reinstatement fees may also be paid by mailing a
completed Application for Driver's License Reinstatement form (see Related
Documents below) with a check or money order (made payable to the State of
Michigan) to the Out-of-State Resident Services Unit Michigan Department of
State 7064 Crowner Drive Lansing, MI 48918.
- In-person: Either the driver or another person acting on the driver's
behalf may pay the reinstatement fee at any Secretary of State office. The
driver's license number of the driver must be submitted when payment is made.
Cash, checks and money orders are accepted at all Secretary of State offices.
PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers also accept Discover and MasterCard at the
counter. Checks and money orders should be made out to the State of Michigan.
