Senior Citizens are Eligible for a Personal Identification Card

If you are age 65 or older and no longer drive, you are eligible for a free state identification card . State law does not allow residents to hold a valid driver's license and a state ID card at the same time. However, residents with a driver's license that has been restricted, suspended or revoked may apply for a state ID card.

Before a state ID card is issued, you must provide documentation of a valid Social Security number,  U.S. citizenship or legal presence if not a U.S. citizen, identity along with at least two documents establishing Michigan residency.

All documents are subject to department approval.  In some cases, document approval may not occur in the same day and may require an additional visit.
