The Secretary of State offers fundraising license plates to raise money for
Michigan's 15 state-supported universities and the following special causes:
agricultural heritage, Children's Trust Fund, lighthouse preservation, veteran's
memorial, water quality, wildlife habitat, the Northern Michigan University
Olympic Education Center, and disaster relief through the American Red Cross and
Salvation Army (Proud To Be American plate).
Fundraising license plates are mailed within 14 days from the date ordered.
Personalized fundraising plates may take an additional week to process.
Fundraising Plate Fees
Original fees
$35 fundraising fee in addition to any applicable registration fee. The special
cause or university receives $25. A fundraising disability plate featuring an
embossed international wheelchair symbol is also available.
If an owner already has a plate on his or her vehicle, it can be credited toward
the fundraising plate. In this case, only the $35 fundraising fee is due.
Renewal fees
$10 fundraising fee in addition to the annual registration fee. The special
cause or university receives the $10.
Personalized Fundraising Plates
For an additional fee, fundraising plates can be personalized with up to six
characters; disability fundraising plates with up to five characters. Original
fundraising personalized license plates must be ordered at a Secretary of State
branch office. View

Original fees
$35 fundraising fee in addition to any applicable registration fee plus a
personalized plate service fee. The personalized plate service fee will vary
depending on your expiration date and is prorated* from six to 17 months. *The
proration fee is based on the number of months the plate is valid, $8 for first
month $2 for each remaining month. Example: A plate valid for 12 months would be
assessed a personalized service fee of $30.
If an owner already has a plate on their vehicle, it can be credited towards the
personalized fundraising plate. In this case, only the $35 fundraising fee and
personalized plate fee (prorated) are due.
There is an additional $15 charge for a second plate.
Renewal fees
$10 fundraising fee in addition to the annual registration fee plus $15
personalized plate service fee. The special cause or university receives the
$10.
Two Ways to Order:
By Mail - To order by mail, print and complete the order form
for the university or special cause plate you want. Credit card payment is
accepted. If paying by check or money order, make it payable to "State of
Michigan."
Note: Original fundraising personalized license plates can only be
ordered at a Secretary of State branch office.
In Person at a Secretary of State Branch Office - Visit any of
our offices. All offices accept cash, checks or money orders. PLUS offices and
SUPER!Centers also take Discover credit cards at the counter.
