I bought a car and now I cannot find the title. How do I get a replacement title?

Answer:

Dealers can apply for a resale title if they lose a title.  Complete an RD-108 for a resale and depending on the age and value of the vehicle:

  1. Post a surety bond if the vehicle is less than six model years old and exceeds $2,500 in value, or
  2. Self-certify ownership if the vehicle is six or more model years old or older and worth $2,500 or less.

Specific instruction for each of the above processes is found in Chapter 3 of the Dealer Manual.
