Clarkston Nurse Loses License

Contact: James McCurtis, Jr. (517) 241-2112

Agency: Community Health

March 1, 2010

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the nursing license of Melissa Marie Buist, L.P.N., based on her conviction in the 6th Judicial Circuit Court of Oakland County, Michigan.

On Dec. 17, 2009, Buist was convicted of one felony count of domestic violence - third offense. As a result, Buist, 37, was placed on probation with terms for 18 months, and ordered to pay fines and costs totaling $2,378.00. The conviction was based on Buist's assault upon a resident or former resident of her household, and her previous related convictions.

On Feb. 22, 2010, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Buist's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.

For more information on disciplinary actions taken by the health professional licensing boards within MDCH, please go to http://www.michigan.gov/mdch, and click on Health Systems and Licensing.
