Bloomfield Hills Dentist Loses License
May 12, 2005 The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the dentistry license of Laura J. Eckles, D.D.S., based on her felony and misdemeanor convictions in the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Oakland County, Michigan. Eckles failed to report her conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On January 29, 2003, Eckles was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of Controlled Substances-Licensee Prescription Violations and two felony counts of Health Care Fraud-False Claim. As a result, Eckles was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for time served, and was placed on probation, with terms, for a period of one year.
On April 27, 2005, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Eckles’ license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional’s license upon the conviction of a felony. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Eckles’ dentistry license.
