MDOT to seek public input on I-75 Environmental Assessment
WHAT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is holding a public meeting for interested residents to learn more about the proposed reconstruction and widening of I-75 in Saginaw County. The project would stretch from Dixie Highway north to the south junction of I-675, and extend through Buena Vista and Bridgeport townships.
The proposed work includes reconstructing 5.4 miles of the existing six-lane freeway and the addition of a permanent outside lane to ensure traffic congestion relief for weekend travelers. The majority of the reconstruction would occur within MDOT's existing right of way. Work also includes minor use of Soap Box Derby property at the Buena Vista Lions Park to allow for drainage improvements.

BACKGROUND: MDOT is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) that describes and analyzes this proposed work on I-75 and measures taken to minimize potential harm to the project area. MDOT encourages interested residents to stop by anytime during the open house-style meeting to view displays and learn more about the EA.
Public input is sought to help MDOT recognize and address any concerns about possible impacts on residents or natural environments. MDOT staff members will be available to answer questions.
The proposed project is intended to provide consistency along this busy gateway to the north and ease traffic back-ups during weekend and holiday travel. The overall reconstruction project extends 40 miles through Genesee, Saginaw and Bay counties from I-475 just north of Flint to the M-13 connector. The final phase of the project, work along a 6.4-mile stretch of I-75, also includes reconstructing I-675 from the north junction to Crane Road in 2016.
With an advance notice of seven days, MDOT can make most of the materials for this meeting available in alternative formats, such as large print or audiotape, and can make accommodations for sign language interpretation and/or assisted listening devices.
