Agency: Transportation

WHAT: An information open house hosted by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to discuss proposed improvements to the I-96/US-23 interchange in Brighton Township.

MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration are initiating an Environmental Assessment (EA) to determine the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed interchange improvements.

At the open house, MDOT will explain the status of the study, proposed improvements and timeline, and the process involved for affected homeowners. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments on the proposed changes at the meeting.

WHO: MDOT staff
General public

WHEN: Thursday, May 17, 2012
12 - 2 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m.

WHERE: Brighton Township Hall
4363 Buno Road
Brighton

BACKGROUND: The proposal includes constructing six new through-lanes on I-96 between the current eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway, along with building three new bridges over northbound and southbound US-23, and over Old US-23.

The existing lanes of I-96 will become collector/distributor (CD) lanes as a way to help ramp traffic move smoothly through the interchange. The existing six bridges over US-23 and Old US-23 also would be rebuilt.
