July 3, 2008 - Detroit Native And Waterford Resident Promoted To Captain And Second District Commander

EAST LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz is pleased to announce the promotion of First Lieutenant Harold J. Love to captain and commander of the MSP Second District, covering Southeast Michigan. The Second District Headquarters is located in Northville.

As district commander, Love oversees the operation of seven posts covering the counties of Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne. The posts provide personnel for traffic patrols, criminal investigations and emergency services, as well as staffing for task forces and special investigative units.

Prior to his promotion, Love served as a section commander and public information officer in the MSP Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division. In this position, he was responsible for the management of the State Emergency Operations Center, coordination of the Michigan Citizen Corps Program and dissemination of information to federal, state, and local government agencies as well as the public during emergencies.

Love joined the department in 1988, and graduated as a member of the 104th Trooper Recruit School. In his 19-year career, he has served at the Niles, Detroit, Paw Paw, Metro North, Groveland, and Adrian posts, as well as the Fire Marshal Division and Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.

During his career, Love has held the ranks of trooper, sergeant, detective sergeant, specialist sergeant, lieutenant, first lieutenant and now captain.

Love holds a bachelor's degree in public service studies from Siena Heights University. A native of Detroit, Love lives in Waterford with his wife, April, and son, Cameron. He also has a daughter, Ashley, living in Niles.
