Thirty-four students from across Michigan today received "Breaking Traditions Awards" for being successful in Career and Technical Education program areas that are non-traditional for their gender, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan announced.

The State Board of Education on Tuesday presented Janice Ambs with the 2008 Stella Gikas Professional Support Staff Excellence Award.  The award, first presented in 1991, is given annually to an outstanding support person in the Michigan Department of Education.
01Head Custodian in Troy Schools Named Michigan School Support Person of the Year
Mel Sledzinski was surprised today when he was named 2007-2008 Michigan School Support Person of the Year during a visit from state Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan. Sledzinski is a Head Custodian at Ruth Wass Elementary School in the Troy Public Schools.
