 |  |  |  | | 30 | Library of Michigan Aims to Educate, Entertain and Inspire with 2006 Michigan Notable Books Jan. 30, 2006 - The Library of Michigan today announced the 2006 Michigan Notable Books, 20 books highlighting Michigan people, places and events. According to State Librarian Nancy Robertson, this year's collection of fiction and non-fiction titles covers a great deal of territory, from Irish ancestry and boxing legend Joe Louis to the Motor City music scene and the formative years of what we now know as Michigan State University.
 | | 25 | Granholm Says Jobs Plan Will Continue to Set State's Agenda In her fourth and final State of the State Address of her first term, Governor Granholm talked of her hope for Michigan's future and her agenda for good jobs and a stronger economy.
"Michigan has the most far-reaching economic plan of any state in the country," Granholm told a joint session of the Legislature. "It's an aggressive $6 billion plan to grow jobs today and jobs tomorrow. And it's about to get even more aggressive."

Jan. 25, 2006 - The Michigan Historical Commission recently approved seven new state historical markers, including one for a Marshall house owned by suffragette Mary Miller; one for the Charlotte home of Governor Luren D. Dickinson; and one for an Octagon house in Macomb County.
