25Woodworking, Military Drills and Colonial Crafts Enhanced by Campeau's Company Encampment at Colonial Michilimackinac July 26-27
July 25, 2008 - From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 26-27, Mackinac State Historic Parks will host the Campeau's Company encampment at Colonial Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City. Re-enactors from throughout Michigan join the 18th-century British soldier interpreters already stationed at the reconstructed fort and fur-trading village. During Campeau Company's stay, both soldier and Colonial re-enactors will accurately portray many aspects of French colonial life.
24Mackinac Island Airport Terminal Grand Reopening Precedes Mackinac Island State Park Commission Meeting on July 25
July 24, 2008 - The Mackinac Island State Park Commission will hold its fourth meeting of the year at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25 on Mackinac Island. The grand reopening of the Mackinac Island Airport terminal precedes the meeting. The 10:30 a.m. event will include a welcome and acknowledgements by Phil Porter, Mackinac State Historic Parks director, remarks and a history of the airport by commission leaders, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

July 24, 2008 - For people who enjoy all the modern conveniences of today, it might be difficult to grasp the hardships and challenges of mid-19th-century life. Brenda Laakso, site historian with the Michigan Historical Center at Fayette Historic State Park, will do her best to share that story with the public in "Company Rule and Community Life: Industrial Fayette, 1867-1891," at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, in Negaunee Township.
