Transit agencies and Michigan-based businesses to meet at Vendor Showcase in Mt. Pleasant

Contact:  Janet Foran, MDOT Office of Communications, 517-335-7176
Agency: Transportation

June 30, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host the Michigan Vendor Showcase and Transit Summit on Tuesday, July 14, at Finch Fieldhouse on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant.

The free event will bring together representatives from more than 60 Michigan transit agencies - most from rural areas - with Michigan-based manufacturers and service providers who supply the transit industry. The Vendor Showcase will help transit agencies identify goods and services available from Michigan companies, allowing them to put Recovery Act dollars to work strengthening Michigan communities and Michigan's economy.

The Vendor Showcase will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Transit Summit, where MDOT will educate transit agencies about the Recovery Act and procurement regulations and get input from agencies to prioritize allocation of the Recovery dollars.

For more information about the event, contact Jean Ruestman at 517-373-6625, or ruestmanj@michigan.gov.

MDOT: Working with our partners at airports, bus systems, marine and rail to find innovative solutions for Michigan's transportation systems.
