New Adopt-A-Highway volunteers keep U.P. highways clean

July 11, 2008 -- Several new groups have volunteered to help keep Upper Peninsula highway roadsides clean as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Adopt-A-Highway program.

Currently, 1,173 miles of state highways in the U.P. are being cared for by 515 volunteer groups across 15 counties. The second of three annual pickups is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, through Sunday, July 20, statewide.

"We greatly appreciate the service the Adopt-A-Highway volunteers provide, and we will install signs recognizing their efforts as soon as possible," said MDOT Superior Region Delivery Engineer Ray Roberts.

Recent volunteers participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program include:
