MDOT work on M-37 (East Beltline) at Lake Eastbrook Boulevard moves into second phase

Agency: Transportation

July 2, 2008 -- Construction on M-37 (East Beltline) at Lake Eastbrook Boulevard in Kentwood and Grand Rapids will move into the second stage on Tuesday, July 8, a week ahead of schedule.

Beginning Tuesday, the Woodland Mall Drive will reopen. East Beltline traffic will be shifted to the west side of the roadway, with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction on the newly constructed pavement.

"We know this project is having an impact on the businesses in and surrounding the Woodland and Centerpointe malls, so we are pleased that construction is going well and we are running slightly ahead of schedule," said Erick Kind, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Grand Rapids Transportation Service Center manager.

Also beginning Tuesday, Lake Eastbrook Boulevard will be closed at M-37. Access to local businesses will be maintained.

The project includes reconstructing the intersection of M-37 and Lake Eastbrook Boulevard, and the addition of double left-turn lanes at the entrance to Woodland Mall, and to Lake Eastbrook Boulevard. There are currently single left-turn lanes for both of those turning movements. Lake Eastbrook Boulevard also will be realigned to improve visibility for drivers turning onto M-37.

This $2.1 million project is scheduled to be completed in early September.
