Contact:  Kari Arend 517-750-0406
Agency: Transportation

May 7, 2008 -- Starting today, work begins to resurface 16.5 miles of US-12 in Hillsdale and Branch counties. The project will be completed in two sections to reduce the inconvenience to residents and motorists, especially those traveling during race weekend the third weekend in June at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn.

The first section stretches from the east village limits of Quincy in Branch County, east to the west village limits of Jonesville in Hillsdale County. Improvements include resurfacing the roadway. All work in this section is expected to be completed before the June MIS race.

The second section begins at the east village limits of Jonesville to just east of Moscow Road in Hillsdale County. Improvements in this section include milling and resurfacing the roadway, ditching and drainage improvements, and guardrail replacement. Work in this section will begin after the June MIS race.

The entire project is expected to be completed in late August.

Both sections of work will require single lane closures with flag control.
