M-81 bridge work over Cass River begins soon

STARTING DATE: Monday, Aug. 3, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Early September 2009

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin M-81 concrete bridge deck resurfacing Monday, Aug. 3. Work includes guardrail and concrete approach replacement, along with resurfacing the roadway on both sides of the bridge.

This project, located 1.5 miles east of Cass City, is weather- dependent.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Two posted detour routes will be in effect on M-81.

Northbound motorists will take Cemetery Road to Bay City- Forestville Road, to access M-53.

Southbound motorists will take Cemetery Road to Deckerville Road, to access M-53.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: J. Slagter & Son Construction Co. of Wayland is the contractor for this $180,000 project, which will provide a smoother ride for motorists and extend the service life of the bridge deck.
