July 29, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced plans to begin construction on a 1.2-mile safety project on US-23 in Cheboygan. The $520,000 project in Cheboygan County includes resurfacing, concrete repairs, storm sewer work, parking removal, and conversion from two and three lanes within the existing curb and gutter. Work will begin in August and should be completed in mid-September.
At some point, eastbound US-23 will be detoured from Dresser Street to M-27 for no more than four days. Otherwise, traffic will be maintained with flag control and shoulder closures.
Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through the work zone.
The project was originally slated for 2010 but was moved up because 100 percent of the funding became available from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA).
This work will benefit motorists by improving the flow of traffic and enhancing safety in the project area.
