June 17, 2009

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the passing of Frank Garrison, former president of the Michigan State AFL-CIO:

"Frank Garrison was a lion of the labor movement.  As a labor leader for more than 40 years, Frank fought passionately for better lives for workers.  He was an activist who believed government can and should be a means for improving the lives of ordinary citizens.  In the political arena, Frank was a fierce competitor and never afraid to say what was on his mind.  Personally, he had a caring heart and a great love for his family, his friends, and working people.  I extend my deepest sympathy to the Garrison family on their loss."
