Harrisville State Park is hosting a program and activities on various aspects of Lake Huron on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the day use area.
Sea Grant Institute, represented by Brandon Schroeder, will be working with the local 4-H organization and providing information on the Lake Huron Food Web, Project Fish, and lessons on casting fishing line, fish printing and more.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, represented by Anjanette Bowen, will be setting up displays of real fish on ice, including native species and invasive species. There also will be a salmon migration game for the kids, and skulls and furs for all to enjoy.
Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, represented by Cathy Green and Steve Gates, will explain shipwreck mapping, give a dive gear demo, and provide a history of the shipping industry and the Great Lakes.
The U.S. Coast Guard will have a 25-foot boat on display and will be offering water safety tips.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will host activities such as, "Save Oscar," where you will rescue a life-like mannequin from drowning, knot tying, games, displays, swimming safety, boating safety, marine radio use and proper life jacket usage. They also will bring a remote control boat named "Coastie" to add to the fun.
Campers and park visitors are invited to "GO-Get Outdoors" and join in the fun.
Harrisville State Park is located at 248 State Park Rd., one-half mile south of the M-72 and US-23 intersection in Harrisville. All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.
