MDOT scheduled to begin improvements along I-94 in Jackson County

Contact:  Kari Arend 517-750-0406
Agency: Transportation

March 27, 2008 - - Starting Tuesday, April 1, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin the first phase of improvements along I-94 near Jackson. During this phase, crews will begin to reconstruct and lengthen the I-94 westbound exit and eastbound entrance ramps at Dearing Road (Exit 133). This first phase also includes repairing and widening I-94 where it crosses over Sandstone Creek, just east of Dearing Road. The work in this first phase is expected to be completed by Labor Day.

During the Dearing Road ramp work, the westbound exit ramp and the eastbound entrance ramp will be closed, with traffic detoured. The detour route will include Dearing Road, Michigan Avenue, and M-60. For the work over Sandstone Creek, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-94 with a traffic shift.

This project is one of several scheduled this year along the I-94 corridor in Jackson County. Later this summer, I-94 will be resurfaced from Sandstone Road, east to US-127/West Avenue (M-50). Work on this preventive maintenance project will take place at night only as a way to reduce the inconvenience to motorists.
