MDOT to host meeting April 1 in Alpena prior to major US-23 reconstruction

BACKGROUND: MDOT will be reconstructing 1.9 miles of US-23 (Chisholm Street) from 11th Avenue to north of French Road. The work includes widening for a center turn lane, safety and drainage improvements, curb and gutter replacement, and the addition of sidewalks and a bike path.

Phase I (expedited schedule): April through May, from 11th Avenue to Johnson Street. US-23 traffic will be detoured using 9th Avenue and Johnson Street.

Phase II: May to August, from Johnson Street to north of French Road. Traffic will be maintained via traffic shifts.

This open house will provide residents and business owners with an opportunity to talk one-on-one with MDOT staff regarding the proposed project. Work is expected to begin Monday, April 7, and be completed in mid-August. NOTE: No formal presentation will be given.
