May 7 through May 11, 2012: Teacher Appreciation Week
WHEREAS, throughout the Great Lakes State and across the nation, teachers play many vital roles as leaders, listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and,
WHEREAS, teachers open the minds of our students to the magic of knowledge, ideas and dreams; and,
WHEREAS, long after our school days become memories, teachers continue to influence our lives; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we raise awareness of the importance of teaching in our society and recognize it as a profession that touches the lives of millions of Americans; we encourage citizens throughout the state to celebrate and honor Michigan's teachers for their continued commitment and dedication to educating the youth our state - our nation's future leaders;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11, 2012 as Teacher Appreciation Week in Michigan.
