May 7 through May 11, 2012: Michigan Manufacturing Week
WHEREAS, Michigan is home to a diverse manufacturing sector that includes transportation, machinery, furniture, computer and electronic products and chemical manufacturing; and,
WHEREAS, manufacturing, along with the mining and utilities industries, remains the largest sector of Michigan's economy, providing approximately 19 percent of Michigan's gross state product; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is 42 percent more concentrated in manufacturing jobs and eight times more concentrated in auto employment than the rest of the nation; since 2010, Michigan manufacturers have added 65,500 jobs to the state's economy; and,
WHEREAS, the manufacturing industry continues to play a vital role in Michigan's economic success as it has for more than a century; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we reflect on Michigan's rich history as a manufacturing state, and we join with the Michigan Manufacturers Association to recognize Michigan's resilient manufacturing workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11, 2012 as Michigan Manufacturing Week.
