Thursday, May 3, 2012: Michigan Day of Prayer
WHEREAS, on July 20, 1775, the Continental Congress proclaimed the first National Day of Prayer; and,
WHEREAS, becoming an official national day of observance in 1952, a day of prayer provides a collective opportunity to reflect on the blessings we are given each and every day; and,
WHEREAS, our state and nation face new challenges and significant hardships, but as we work to reinvent Michigan, it is important that we remember to give thanks to God for our state's bountiful natural resources, opportunities for education and growth and the unrelenting, enduring spirit of Michigan's people; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we acknowledge the importance of prayer in our state, encouraging Michigan citizens to join together in prayer for our nation and its local, state and national leaders;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 3, 2012 as Michigan Day of Prayer.
