May 2012: Leave a Legacy Month

WHEREAS, Michigan is home to some of our nation's most generous and compassionate citizens that make charitable giving and supporting non-profit organizations a priority; and,   

 

WHEREAS, it is estimated that more than 80 percent of households in Michigan make charitable contributions every year; and,

 

WHEREAS, non-profit organizations provide excellent and essential services in many areas of our lives including religion, education, healthcare, research, the arts and social services for those in need; and,

 

WHEREAS, "Leave A Legacy" is a public awareness effort that aims to "make a difference in the lives that follow" by encouraging citizens to make planned charitable contributions through their will or estate; and, 

 

WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage all citizens to recognize the vital importance of charitable giving in our state, and to learn more about "Leave A Legacy," as it promotes giving and supporting the non-profit organizations that contribute to making Michigan a great place to live;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2012 as Leave a Legacy Month in Michigan.
