May 2012: Toxic Injury and Chemical Awareness Month

WHEREAS, each and every day, the citizens of Michigan encounter chemicals and potential toxic injury as a result of exposure to pollution, household cleaning products, mold and other pollutants found in homes, work places and schools; and,

WHEREAS, chemicals that are improperly stored, transported or used can cause harm and it is vital that citizens understand the benefits and hazards that chemicals pose to our families, especially children, and ways to prevent possible injury; and,

WHEREAS, injury incurred by exposure to toxins and chemicals may include multiple, sometimes disabling, illnesses and could become life threatening; and,

WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage citizens to learn more about chemicals they may encounter in their homes, schools and work places, and to understand the importance of proper chemical storage and handling in order to prevent toxic injury in our state;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2012 as Toxic Injury and Chemical Awareness Month in Michigan.
