Monday, April 23, 2012: Army Reserve Day

WHEREAS, originally established in 1908 as the Reserve Medical Corps, this small unit of medical professionals has grown over the past 100 years into a specialized reserve force of more than 200,000 soldiers that is known today as the United States Army Reserve; and,

 

WHEREAS, members of the Army Reserve have served and protected this nation in every major conflict since World War I; and,

 

WHEREAS, thousands of Michigan men and women serve our state and country as members of the Army Reserve, and hundreds currently serve on active duty; and,

   

WHEREAS, on this day, we honor the brave citizens who readily serve our state and country and sacrifice much to defend the values most important to the people of this nation;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, April 23, 2012 as Army Reserve Day in Michigan.
