April 2012: Month of the Young Child

WHEREAS, child abuse, neglect, lack of healthcare and poor nutrition are just some of the very real issues children face in our state every day, all of which jeopardize a child's right to a happy and healthy life; and,

WHEREAS, as parents, teachers, lawmakers and community leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure our youth learn and grow in an environment that will help them become productive, capable and considerate adults; and,

WHEREAS, during this month, we honor Michigan's children, recognizing the important role our youth play, and we encourage all Michigan citizens to foster a positive environment for our youth - the state's future leaders;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2012 as Month of the Young Child in Michigan.
