March 25 through March 31, 2012: Michigan Environmental Health Week

WHEREAS, the Michigan Constitution, Article IV, Section 51 states, "The public health and general welfare of the people of the state are hereby declared to be matters of primary public concern;" and, 

 

WHEREAS, environmental health professionals are dedicated to the improvement of public health through management of the environment and preventative measures; their efforts contribute to the continued improvement and protection of the public's general welfare; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Michigan's environmental health professionals apply their science-based expertise to known and potential problems, which often results in avoiding health hazards and reducing total health care costs; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Environmental Health Association to encourage citizens throughout the state to learn more about environmental health professionals and to recognize the many contributions of these public servants;  

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 25 through Saturday, March 31, 2012 as Michigan Environmental Health Week.
