March 4 through March 10, 2012: Consumer Protection Week
WHEREAS, for the 14th consecutive year, local, state and federal government agencies and organizations are celebrating National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), a coordinated effort that encourages consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions; and,
WHEREAS, NCPW is an opportunity to share tips and information that will help consumers better manage money and debt, stay safe online and protect their privacy and identity by avoiding fraud and scams; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation (OFIR) consists of more than 350 professionals dedicated to protecting Michigan consumers by ensuring the companies that it regulates are safe and follow state and federal law, and OFIR offers a number of consumer protection-related programs; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we raise awareness of the importance of consumer protection and we encourage citizens of all ages throughout Michigan to become more informed and empowered consumers;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 4 through Saturday, March 10, 2012 as Consumer Protection Week in Michigan.
