Governor makes appointment to Michigan Farm Produce Insurance Authority

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Aaron Somers, of Henderson, to the Michigan Farm Produce Insurance Authority. 

Established in 2003, the nine-member board represents farmers and grain, feed and banking interests, and is responsible for the establishment, administration and promotion of the Farm Produce Insurance Fund.   

"Michigan's agriculture industry is an integral part of the growth and success of our state," said Snyder. "Aaron's background in financial services and agricultural experiences make him a great choice for this post."

Somers is owner and operator of Somers Brothers Farms in Henderson, where he oversees the farm business capital and manages strategic planning. Previously, he worked as a financial analyst at Greenstone Farm Credit Services and SLF Management Services. Somers serves as vice president for the Chapin Communications Corp. board of directors and is a member of the Brady Township Board of Review.  He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance from Central Michigan University. Somers will represent producers from the largest Michigan organization representing general farm interests in Michigan and replaces Derek LeCronier.  

Somers will serve a three-year-term that begins June 21, 2012, and expires June 20, 2015. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
