Appointments made to Aeronautics Commission

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Rick Fiddler, of Ada, and Roger Salo, of Plymouth, to the Michigan Aeronautics Commission.

The 10-member board governs all airports, flight schools and other aeronautical activities within the state.

"Rick and Roger bring decades of valuable experience to this commission," said Snyder. "I am confident their service will effectively support the commission's efforts."

Fiddler is director of aviation for Amway Corp., where he has worked for nearly 30 years. Previously, he served as a patrol officer, helicopter pilot and on the underwater recovery team for the Lansing Police Department. Fiddler is former chairman of the Michigan Business Aircraft Association and is a member of the Gulfstream Customer Advisory Board, Sikorsky/United Technologies Customer Advisory Board and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Task Force Committee. He is a certified flight instructor, holds a USA Airline Transport Pilot certificate and earned a bachelor's degree in law enforcement from Ferris State University. Fiddler replaces Sidney Adams.

Salo is director of aviation for Masco Corp. and brings 40 years of experience in business aviation operations. He is a founding member and current chair of the Michigan Business Aviation Association, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and serves on the National Business Aviation Association's Safety Committee. Salo is a certified flight instructor, holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Hillsdale College and studied aviation management at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. He replaces James Collins.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that expire May 27, 2016, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
