Snyder appoints James Stevenson to the Michigan Board of Pharmacy

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of James Stevenson, of Northville, to the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.

The 11-member board is responsible for regulating and inspecting the practice of pharmacy and drugs manufactured and distributed in the state.

"This board plays a critical role in protecting the public's health, safety and welfare," said Snyder. "I am confident James will make a vigilant and dedicated addition to the group."

Stevenson is the chief pharmacy officer of the University of Michigan Health System and associate dean and department chair in the Department of Clinical, Social and Administrative Sciences for the University of Michigan's College of Pharmacy. Previously, he served as executive director of pharmacy services for the Detroit Medical Center and a professor in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at Wayne State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and a doctor of pharmacy degree, both from Wayne State University. Stevenson will represent professionals and replaces Sara Fakhoury.

Stevenson will serve a four-year term that commences July 1, 2012, and expires June 30, 2016. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
