he Michigan Department of Corrections Prison Build Program has recently been approved by the State of Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes to build complete homes at the Saginaw Correctional Facility construction site.
The Bureau of Construction Codes is a bureau of the Department of Consumer and Industry Services and regulates corporations providing pre-manufactured housing within the state.

The Prison Build Program builds houses and housing components and provides landscape services and horticulture products for nonprofit groups and governmental agencies that provide housing for low-income families.

The Prison Build Program was required to complete a Quality Assurance Manual setting forth procedures and processes for assuring quality and compliance with state law.
The Prison Build Program was authorized in 2000 to build a three-bedroom home at the Saginaw prison. The home was the first home ever built inside prison walls for Habitat for Humanity.
The site at Saginaw provides a separate perimeter to build up to three homes at a time by inmates in the program. Jack Adam is the team leader at Saginaw under the direction of Warden Blaine Lafler.
“The program has been in discussions with a number of organizations wanting homes for low-income families,” said Mike Green, Prison Build Program administrator.
The Prison Build Program builds houses and housing components and provides landscape services and horticulture products for nonprofit groups and governmental agencies that provide housing for low-income families. Program staff work with participating inmates to teach skills that will assist them in their reintegration back into society.
