The seven-day waiting period for impounds has been abolished. The law requires the law enforcement agency to send the Secretary of State a LEIN transmission within 24 hours after a vehicle is deemed abandoned as described in section 257.252a or 257.252d. The seven-day waiting period stemmed from former section 257.252c, which was repealed and replaced with a new section 257.252d(3). This new section requires owners to claim their vehicles immediately or they will be considered abandoned. > Back To Abandoned Vehicle FAQ's
