This Scholarship provides up to $4,000 to high school graduates for successfully completing two years of postsecondary education beginning with the high school graduating class of 2007.

• Metro Detroit Quality of Life Improvement Association (MDQLIA)
From the Governor: Home insurance and auto insurance are becoming more affordable for good drivers living in Metro Detroit thanks to the hard work of MDQLIA, who joined with my administration, the Office of Financial Insurance Services (OFIS), the Office of Community and Faith-Based Initiatives to form the Insurance Pooling Initiative.

New initiative to make home and auto insurance more affordable for good drivers living in urban areas

• Michigan Department of Transportation
The Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Office of Business Development (OBD), Governor's Office of Community and Faith-Based Initiatives, Michigan State Conference of the NAACP and various representatives from the ministerial alliances statewide have partnered to hold Community Forums. These community Forums were initially established to create awareness for the federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program and the bid opportunities that it provides for small business owners who have not traditionally bid on the high number of projects being let through MDOT statewide.

• No Worker Left Behind
Governor Granholm's new No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) plan will help more than 100,000 displaced workers.

• Michigan State Housing Development Authority
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority provides financial and technical assistance through public and private partnerships to create and preserve decent, affordable housing for low and moderate income Michigan residents.

• Land Bank Authority
The State of Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority ("Authority") was created under Public Act 258 of 2003 ("Act") with the mission of returning blighted tax reverted properties to productive and economically viable use.

• Buy Michigan First
Today, more than 85 percent of what the State of Michigan buys is sold to us by Michigan businesses." The state wants to increase that percentage to enhance the economy, create jobs for today and tomorrow, and increase savings and efficiency. The State of Michigan has a contract portfolio over $11 billion. Buy Michigan First also connects you with available state resources that are right in your community, i.e. your local community college, MI-SBTDC, and PTAC. Community Colleges are an outstanding local resource for small businesses.

• Michigan Prisoner ReEntry Initiative
The Mission of the MPRI is to significantly reduce crime and enhance public safety by implementing a seamless system of services for offenders from the time of their entry to prison through their transition, community reintegration and aftercare in their communities.

Today's children are the key to that future. Mentoring provides each and every Michigan citizen with an opportunity to provide the state with a prosperous future. If every child in Michigan had a mentor then desolation, hopelessness, and despair would abate. It is incumbent upon every Michigan resident to take responsibility for this state's future and to take action to ensure its success. As Mahatma Gandhi stated, we must become the change we want to see in the world.
