Halpin Selected as Eighth District Commander

Captain John Halpin LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce the promotion of D/F/Lt. John Halpin to captain and commander of the department's Eighth District.

In his new position, Halpin is responsible for the operation of seven posts covering Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The posts provide personnel for traffic patrols, criminal investigations and emergency services, as well as staffing for task forces and special investigative units.

Halpin replaces Capt. Myles McCormack who has retired.

Halpin enlisted with the department in 1987, graduating as a member of the 101st Trooper Recruit School. During his 25-year career, he has served at the Pontiac, Newberry, Manistique, Negaunee and Munising posts, as well as the Criminal Investigation Division, Training Division, Forensic Science Division and Eighth District Headquarters. Most recently, Halpin served as commander of the Special Investigation Section at Eighth District Headquarters.

Halpin has held the ranks of trooper, specialist trooper, detective sergeant, specialist sergeant, first lieutenant and detective first lieutenant.

Halpin, 52 years old, is a native of Marine City, Mich. He is a graduate of Ferris State University and is married with two children.
