McCormack Retires after 26 Years of Service

LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue has announced the retirement of Capt. Myles McCormack after 26 years of service. McCormack was commander of the department's Eighth District, which is comprised of seven posts covering Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

McCormack began his career with the MSP in 1985, graduating as a member of the 99th Trooper Recruit School. Over his 26-year career, McCormack served at the Flat Rock, L'Anse, Negaunee, and St. Ignace posts.

In 1994, McCormack was promoted to first lieutenant and was assigned to the St. Ignace Post. In 1998, he was promoted to inspector at the Eighth District Headquarters in Marquette before being promoted to his current rank of captain in 2003.

He has held the ranks of trooper, sergeant, detective sergeant, first lieutenant, inspector and captain.

McCormack graduated from Finlandia University in 1979, the Northern Michigan University Regional Police Academy in 1980, and the FBI National Academy 197th Session in 1999. Prior to McCormack joining the State Police he worked for the Houghton City Police Department for five years as a patrol officer. McCormack is married to F/Lt. Karen McCormack (Ret.) and they have three grown children: Nathan, Justin (Amanda), and Mallory. The McCormack's reside in Gwinn.
