In-Car Cameras

The purpose of in-car mobile videotaping is to establish an audio and/or video recording that is admissible in court as evidence to augment officer investigations.

In early 1990 the Michigan State Police installed Crim Tech in-car video systems in patrol cars.  Crim Tech subsequently went out of business, and interest in the in-car video systems waned.

In the mid 1990's some Michigan State Police work sites began to receive in-car video systems via a grant from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.  In 2006, a State of Michigan contract for the purchase of in-car video systems was secured by the Michigan State Police through the Michigan Department of Management and Budget with Kustom Signals, Inc .  It is also made available to local units of government.

The Michigan State Police currently use the Kustom Signals, Inc.,Eyewitness in-car video system.  There are approximately 614 in-car video systems currently in use at various Michigan State Police work sites throughout the state.
