East Lansing. A Motor Carrier Officer of the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division intercepted an illegal shipment of alcohol with a value totaling approximately $38,000 on I-94 near Jackson, Michigan.
On August 12th, the officer, stationed at the Jackson Post, was observing traffic on east bound I-94 near Race Road at approximately 2:55 p.m. when he observed a white cargo van with the rear windows blacked out. This van had numerous violations and was observed speeding.
The Motor Carrier Officer made a traffic stop and observed a case of Absolute Vodka in the van. Further investigation found that the van was completely filled with cases of alcohol purchased in Indiana. The driver was not a licensed distributor and the appropriate taxes had not been paid on the liquor.
The van and alcohol have been seized and a warrant is being sought against the driver for possession and transportation of untaxed alcohol.
