East Lansing - Michigan State Police Director Colonel Tadarial J. Sturdivant is pleased to announce that Motor Carrier Officer Erick Kestila of the Gladstone Post is the recipient of the 2003 Motor Carrier Officer of the Year Award.
Since 1985, the Michigan Trucking Association has sponsored this award to recognize the Motor Carrier officer who symbolizes outstanding professional ethics, dedication to duty and concern for giving back to their community.
Kestila was recognized for his enthusiasm and motivation both on the job and in his community. A Motor Carrier officer for the past 17 years, Kestila is extremely knowledgeable in all Commercial Motor Vehicle regulations. He also inspects school buses in the northern Michigan area to ensure the safe travel of the area’s school children. Over the past year, Kestila has represented the Motor Carrier Division in a variety of public forums.
On his own time, Kestila is actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He serves as a Scoutmaster with a local troop and as an officer on the district committee. In addition, Kestila assists with the local Girl Scout program and is involved with local law enforcement associations.
Kestila joined the department in October 1986. After graduating as a member of the 4th Motor Carrier Recruit School, he was assigned to the Stephenson Post. In October of 1987, he was transferred to the Gladstone Post where he continues to serve today.
A native of Negaunee, Kestila now resides in Escanaba with his wife, Karen, and two daughters, Kay and Mariah.
