JUNE 11, 2003
East Lansing. Officers from the Michigan State Police, Motor Carrier Division inspected 1,324 commercial vehicles during last week’s three-day Roadcheck operation, up from 895 last year. The operation took place on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
A total of 297 vehicles (22% of the total inspected) and 66 drivers (5% of the total inspected) were placed out-of-service. Out-of-service means defects had to be immediately repaired prior to the vehicle moving again. The out of service percentages are somewhat lower than the national average (approximately 24% for vehicles and 8% for drivers).
Officers discovered 35 hours-of-service violations, 3 false logbooks, 4 suspended truck drivers, and one driver in violation of drug or alcohol regulations.
Michigan’s Roadcheck was conducted in conjunction with all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada, the USDOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Mexican Federal Police. National results should be available within a couple weeks.
