LANSING. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Board of Awards is pleased to announce that Trooper Michael Moyes of the Traverse City Post is a recipient of the MSP Lifesaving Award. He is credited with performing significant action resulting in the saving of a life.
While off-duty on Jan. 7, 2009, Moyes was attending a holiday party when another guest started choking. He responded by administering first aid and successfully dislodged the obstruction, allowing the victim to breathe.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Moyes' quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques saved the subject's life.
Moyes joined the department in 1994, and graduated as a member of the 110th Trooper Recruit School. Upon graduation, Moyes was assigned to the Traverse City Post. A native of Grand Ledge, Moyes served in the United States Army for six years. He currently resides in Traverse City with his wife and two children.
