November 14, 2008 - Forensic Scientist Receives Award

Contact:  D/F/Lt. Charles Morden, MSP Northville Laboratory Director, (248) 380-1000

NORTHVILLE. The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce that Jennifer Dohring of the MSP Northville Forensic Science Laboratory received the New Scientist of the Year Award from the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS) for her contribution to the forensic science field.

Dohring, who has less than five years experience as a forensic scientist, was selected for the honor due to her high level of motivation and service. The MAFS Board of Directors also selected Dohring as Section Chairperson for the new Crime Scene Section and recognized her as one of the key organizers of the highly successful 2007 MAFS annual meeting hosted in Michigan.

Dohring joined the MSP in 2005, and currently works in the Biology/DNA Unit. Dohring graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2004, with a bachelor of science degree in forensic science criminalistics and toxicology. Dohring has been a member of the MAFS since 2007, and is also a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. In June 2008, Dohring received the MSP Professional Excellence Award.

The purpose of MAFS is to encourage the exchange of ideas and information within the forensic sciences by improving contacts between people and laboratories engaged in forensic science. MAFS supports and stimulates research and development of new and/or improved techniques, and works to promote the improvement of professional expertise of persons working in the field of forensic science through education, scientific seminars and research grants.
