LASALLE TWP., MICH. A Michigan State Police (MSP) motor carrier officer assigned to the Monroe Post is being credited with the seizure of over 2,000 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana, having an estimated street value in excess of $3 million, was found hidden in a load of Polymer Pellets.
The drugs were discovered when the motor carrier officer stopped the vehicle for a possible weight violation at the Monroe Scales on Sunday, November 9, 2008. During a routine vehicle safety inspection, the officer observed irregularities in the load and ultimately uncovered 40 bags, each containing 50 pounds of packaged marijuana.
A canine team from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department responded to the scale facility and assisted with the seizure. Also providing assistance were members of the Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigation (OMNI).
The driver, a resident of Texas, is expected to be arraigned in the First District Court in Monroe.
